Comment: My mind-blowing evening with £2.5bn worth of British computing talent
Thursday 3rd April 2008, 8:43AM
PC Pro's contributing editor, Steve Cassidy, spends an astounding evening with a 94-year-old computing legend and the cream of British IT entrepeneurs
Now I know what it takes to make me properly speechless: it is being introduced to a room full of British computing entrepreneurs, in a university college founded in 1448, before listening to a speech from a Professor of Computer Science, born in 1913.
The professor is Maurice Wilkes (pictured above), the college was Queens', and the room with the Harry Potter decor and ambience was the Old Hall.
The occasion, and the audience, though, is what I want to draw your attention to...
Management Research
Trinamo Consulting provide management advice to technology companies. We regularly conduct research that expands the science of management for the technology industry.
Our work has helped businesses make better decisions on business planning and investment, and it has shown how to grow the top line by improving sales rep productivity.
Sales Productivity
"How much should I reasonably expect a salesman to sell?"
We believe this is an important question. It helps in setting sales quotas, assessing the performance of sales people and helps companies to produce accurate financial projections by identifying sales rep productivity. However, companies can only do this if they have plenty of data upon which to base their answer. Although this data exists within the industry, no one has collated this into a referenceable guide – there is no Parker’s Used Car Guide for sales performance.
We are changing this. We are gathering data to answer the above question. We intend to put the answers in the hands of UK technology companies, enabling them to benchmark performance, plan more confidently and make better investment decisions.
To do this we would like to meet with leading technology companies for 1 hour to gather some sales data. In return, we will give a copy of our research results and advice on optimising sales management.

Trinamo launches new Greentech Practice
Environmental concerns are forefront in people’s minds for good reason. Evidence shows we need action now. A variety of greentech and cleantech firms have been established by exceptional people with elegant solutions, who are now facing problems of growth and scale in their organisations. Yet it is only through sales of greentech products and services that their environmental benefit can be realised and commercial gains secured.
This is where Trinamo fits in.
Nicky Dee recently joined Trinamo to spearhead its Greentech Practice:
"I’m excited to join Trinamo since my research shows a need for expertise in the move between product development, sales and growth. While cleantech investment is at a record high, converting this into environmental benefit requires product sales. I chose to work for Trinamo because they meet this need and their team is not only experienced, but passionate and energetic."
She submitted her PhD on ‘Technology Management by Sustainable Energy Ventures’ in December 2007 to Cambridge University. She combines this with several years experience working with greentech companies through European, UK government and regional projects, and with new firms directly.
